I loved the way this story builds suspense and shows how community and courage come together in moments of danger.

The imagery of the well and Marcus’ struggle really stuck with me.

This reads like something remembered from a fever dream. Part folklore, part coming-of-age. You kept the tension alive without overreaching. The voice feels earned, especially in that final line about freedom.

This really means a lot , Christopher. I'm so delighted you enjoyed reading my work. And yes, the story has no specific target, I made sure of that; folklore, coming -of-age, literature... I'm glad it resonated with you that way.

What struck me most here wasn’t just the suspense of falling into the well, but the way it carried all the weight of childhood fears and warnings - the kind you half dismiss until they prove true. The detail work makes it visceral: the blood in the mouth, the frogs, the echo of voices both real and imagined.

And yet, under the terror, there’s also that thread of community - the friends, the teasing, the hand reaching down at the very end. It makes the story sit right at that border between folklore and lived memory, where survival is always tied to others. Great work!

Wow, thank you so much for such a thoughtful response, Joakim! I really appreciate how you engaged deeply with the pieces....it means so much that the details and emotions resonated with you in that way. I'm so glad that you picked up on both the fear and the thread of the community at the end. That balance was exactly what I hoped to capture.
